What is an EIN?

An EIN, or an employer identification number, is a nine-digit number (e.g. 12-345679) that the IRS assigns to organizations. The IRS uses this number to identify entities, such as nonprofits, for tax filing and reporting purposes.

The EIN is a unique identifying number and is used by Network for Good and GuideStar as part of our Giving System and Donation Tracking Report.
