Why do non-501(c)(3) charities show up when you can't make a donation?

The GuideStar database that Network for Good uses for this data contains more than 1.7 million nonprofit organizations, some of which are not public 501c3 charities.

Network for Good currently only processes donations for public 501c3 charities, private operating foundations, and private foundations who have notified the IRS of its intention to convert to a public charity*.

Network for Good does not process donations to organizations who aren’t 501c3, private non-operating foundations / supporting organizations or to organizations that have chosen to opt-out of receiving donations through Network for Good.
